I’m going to keep this brief. I’m not a professional photographer, author or rock expert. However, I do make giant artificial rocks out of concrete. When I started learning about making faux rocks I had to understand all the different shapes, textures and colors rocks came in.This book can be used in many ways. For me, it’s the rock reference book I was searching for and couldn’t find, so I made one myself. I simply wanted a book of rock photos that I could use as a reference when carving and coloring my rock projects. Photos can inspire us and push us beyond our comfort levels, forcing us to try new techniques and improve our skills. Additionally it can be shown to clients to help them choose a color and texture that fits their style. Maybe you are a painter or landscaper, or perhaps you have a rock kink. Whatever it is you use it for, I hope you find it valuable. As you look through the photos I want you to make your own observations and conclusions. If your building and painting faux rocks like me, you could think about painting methods you would use to achieve the specific look or how you would achieve a specific texture. At a glance, we may see one rock as grey or brown, but a closer look will reveal many other colors that make up each rock. This book is organized by those base colors, but rocks throughout the world share so many of the the same colors. My favorite part of coloring rocks is that it doesn’t have to be perfect, and making mistakes sometimes gives it the random and realistic look we aim for. Enjoy! Read more
